Don’t let the forecast slow you down! Stay safe while exercising outdoors during colder weather. The Mayo Clinic recommends the following tips for being active outdoors:

  • Wear clothing appropriate for the weather
  • Let friends and family know where you will be and when you will return
  • If possible, bring a change of dry clothing
  • Carefully watch for signs of cold weather health issues such as hypothermia and frostbite
  • Check with your doctor before exercising in cold weather if you have asthma, heart problems, or other similar conditions
  • Be aware of the weather conditions and wind chill – Check the forecast before heading outside
  • Drink plenty of fluids – you can become dehydrated from sweating and breathing in cold temperatures
