Don’t let the forecast slow you down! Stay safe while exercising outdoors during colder weather. The Mayo Clinic recommends the following tips for being active outdoors:
- Wear clothing appropriate for the weather
- Let friends and family know where you will be and when you will return
- If possible, bring a change of dry clothing
- Carefully watch for signs of cold weather health issues such as hypothermia and frostbite
- Check with your doctor before exercising in cold weather if you have asthma, heart problems, or other similar conditions
- Be aware of the weather conditions and wind chill – Check the forecast before heading outside
- Drink plenty of fluids – you can become dehydrated from sweating and breathing in cold temperatures
